    Dear [Name],

I am writing as a concerned constituent in Kanata-Carleton, with a specific request regarding the proposed development of the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) plant in West Carleton. I understand the importance of advancing green energy initiatives, such as energy storage, to support our province’s long-term sustainability and energy needs. However, I have strong concerns about the decision to locate the BESS plant in an agricultural zone, next to the Carp Hills Municipal Nature Reserve and I urge you to consider a commitment to moving the project to an industrial zone instead. This is an election issue for us!

Ontario’s agricultural lands are an irreplaceable resource, and I believe it is essential to protect these lands for farming and food production, which are crucial to both our local economy and the well-being of our communities. The proposed location in on actively farmed land raises significant concerns regarding the potential impact on farming operations, local ecosystems, and the preservation of the area’s natural resources.

The BESS, a industrial operation, would be more appropriately situated in an industrial zone, where such developments can occur without compromising agricultural land. This shift would not only protect the livelihood of our farmers but also allow the project to integrate with existing infrastructure designed for industrial use, potentially reducing the need for new development and environmental disruptions.

I trust that you understand the balance between advancing environmental goals and protecting the economic interests of all sectors. The decision to prioritize industrial zones over agricultural ones would send a message that our government values sustainable growth while respecting the importance of agricultural preservation.

I kindly request that you make a public commitment to advocate for the relocation of the BESS on Marchurst Rd. to an industrial zone, ensuring that it does not disrupt vital agricultural activities and put our natural resources in our community at risk. Your leadership on this issue would greatly strengthen confidence in your commitment to both environmental responsibility and the protection of our agricultural sector and community.

Thank you for your time and consideration of this important matter. I look forward to your response and hope you will support this change to ensure that we are building a sustainable future without compromising the interests of our farmers and local communities.

    Sincerely,

    .

Sign the Petition

There is a petition to the City of Ottawa formally requesting the cessation of approval for a Battery Energy Storage System located on Marchurst Rd.  We feel that this BESS poses significant safety concerns, environmental hazards, health concerns, the inability to enjoy property (for immediate neighbours), potential depreciation of properties and general dissatisfaction.

You may sign the petition by contacting your Neighbourhood Rep or at one of the locations listed below.
